Modern Jazz of the 70s, 80s and 90s

Keith Jarrett, Pat Metheny, Michael Brecker, and John Scofiield are some of the most influential jazz masters of the post bop generation, shaping the amazing music known as modern jazz. Despite the popularity of this music, audiences have few opportunities to hear the distinctive harmony, melodic shapes and articulation that defines the style and separates it from classics found in The Real Book.

Maryland based supergroup the MARS 4-tet will rectify the situation with a modern jazz concert featuring tunes by modern jazz giants and new compositions slated for their upcoming album. Formed only one year ago, MARS 4-tet has already packed a long string of prestigious venues and festivals in Annapolis, Baltimore, Bethesda, Easton, National Harbor, Saint Michael’s and the District. See http://www.mars4tet.com.

The eclectic quartet features acclaimed recording and performing artists who toured the globe for decades before settling in the Mid-Atlantic region. They are Latin Grammy Award winning bassist Max Murray, Canadian saxophonist Jeff Antoniuk lauded by Jazz Times for his “considerable chops,” and by The Washington Post for his “impressive skills” as a composer, powerfully melodic drummer Frank Russo and versatile guitarist Donato Soviero.

Known for their energy, humor and groove, these players effortlessly cross modern musical boundaries. (This ain’t your grandma’s jazz band!)
