Jack Waugh is one of the most talked about up and coming guitarists in the DC area. At age 20, Waugh has performed at venues including the Strathmore, the 930 Club, Jammin’ Java, Twins Jazz Club, Somethin’ Jazz Club, and the Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival. He has also performed with many notable musicians such as Delfeayo Marsalis, Brian Lynch, and John Lee. Waugh attends The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York City, and has studied with numerous instructors including Vic Juris, Chuck Underwood, John Lee, Gilad Hekselman, Brad Shepik, Parthenon Huxley.

Joining Waugh are two of his New School contemporaries, bassist Hwansu Kang and drummer Liam Zahm. The Jack Waugh Trio brings forward a powerful sound that is the perfect blend of modern jazz, straight ahead, and fusion.  “I’m optimistic for the future of music,” Waugh says. “I think every style has to evolve to keep the spark of innovation going, and I think this group does that really well. When it comes down to it, I play music because it’s able to transcend societal barriers. My goal is to speak to others through my music, and to watch as I see where it takes me.”
