New York based saxophonist Darryl Yokley is a talent on the rise. Moving to New York in 2009 he quickly established him as an artist with a unique voice and a vivid imagination. He started playing with Orrin Evans and the Captain Black Big Band, Frank Lacy, Jack Walrath, and Valery Ponomarev’s Big Band to name a few. Within less than a year Yokley started playing main shows as a leader and has continued on that path ever since. Yokley formed his small group Sound Reformation in 2010 and the band has been gaining notoriety in New York and the surrounding areas including international interest. The band released its debut album The Void in 2012 and it received some great reviews. The band is presently comprised of Duane Eubanks on trumpet, Zaccai Curtis on piano, Luques Curtis on bass, and Wayne Smith J.R. on drums, and will record their second album at the end of this year along with special guest Nasheet Waits. Darryl has also played with motown legends The Four Tops, The Temptations, and The O’Jays and currently plays with singer Rhonda Ross in addition to leading his own band and various other ensembles.
