David Lighton, a rising guitarist from New York, has been deeply involved in music since he was a child. The son of a record collector possessing some 15,000 LPs, Lighton was fortunate enough to have Greenwich Village at arm's length to explore New York's ever fertile jazz scene from a very young age. His early exposure to a great deal of American music has allowed him to draw from diverse influences, including: Jim Hall, Bill Evans, Wayne Shorter, Peter Bernstein, Grant Green, Miles Davis, John Abercrombie, Elvin Jones, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Warne Marsh, Lennie Tristano, and Chet Baker.
Lighton, who moved to Washington in 2009, has played in several of DC's leading jazz clubs including Twins Jazz. He is a student at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore where he studies with Paul Bollenback. He is also an editor and columnist for AllAboutJazz.com.
