GABRIEL WILK - More Info

Gabriel is currently studying Jazz Studies at the University of Michigan, where he is developing his own sound as a guitarist and composer. There, he studies with Chicago based guitarist, Frank Portolese, as well as with other world renowned members of the faculty. He has been heavily influenced by guitarists Jimi Hendrix, Wes Montgomery, Django Reinhardt, Pat Metheny, Johnny Greenwood (amongst others), and musicians including Lauryn Hill, Common, Avishai Cohen, Chris “Daddy” Dave, Robert Glasper, Thom Yorke and Flying Lotus. Gabriel studied guitar throughout high school with Washington D.C local jazz guitarist, Rodney Richardson, and has collaborated with and played with a variety of young musicians in the area. In 2007, he was a finalist of the Jonathan T. Deutsch memorial award for Creative Jazz. Gabriel continues to pursue his musical growth, and is dedicated to making good music. With his trio, consisting of top DC musicians, Gabriel explores composition and improvisation with a truly unique sound.
